Wimbledon - What a SMASH :)

The Lucky Year 5's stood by Fred Perry statue

For eight lucky Year 5 students, a dream came true as they found themselves amidst the excitement and grandeur of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. The students, selected 'out of the hat', were treated to a day they will never forget, complete with prime seats on Court 2, where they witnessed some of the tournament's most thrilling matches.

The students could hardly contain their excitement as they watched teenage sensation Coco Gauff and partner Jessica Pegula take on the competition in a thrilling doubles encounter against the women's number 1 pairing of Su-WeiHsieh and Elise Mertens.

Following Gauff's match, the students were captivated by the powerful play of Taylor Townsend. Townsend’s athleticism and strategic prowess were on full display, offering the youngsters a masterclass in professional tennis.

The students also enjoyed an invitational doubles match, where they cheered for their favourite players and soaked in the dynamic and fast-paced nature of doubles tennis. The experience provided a comprehensive view of the sport, highlighting the skill and coordination required for top-level doubles play.

Beyond the matches, the students had the added thrill of celebrity spotting and strawberry eating!  They glimpsed several famous faces in the crowd, including former tennis stars and celebrities who had come to enjoy the day’s action. The excitement of seeing well-known personalities added an extra layer of magic to their already unforgettable experience.

"It was an incredible day," said one of the students. "Watching Coco Gauff and Taylor Townsend was amazing, seeing famous people in the crowd was so cool! I can't wait to tell all my friends about it."

The initiative, part of Wimbledon’s community outreach program, aims to inspire the next generation of tennis players and fans. By providing these young students with the opportunity to experience the tournament first hand, Wimbledon hopes to ignite a lifelong passion for the sport.

As the students left the grounds, they carried with them not just memories of thrilling tennis and celebrity sightings, but also a renewed enthusiasm for the sport they love. For these young fans, the day was a perfect serve of inspiration and joy, straight from the heart of one of tennis’s most prestigious tournaments.
